Del Rios of Mt Anakie Winery
The del Rio family brought a family tradition of vine growing from their Spanish homeland to Australia. Gus & Esther del Rio and their three sons established the 14-hectare vineyard that lies on the western slopes of Mt Anakie, an ancient volcano just west of Port Phillip Bay in 1996.
On the outermost edge of the Moorabool Valley, del Rios of Mt Anakie enjoys a continental climate, which helps to provide prolonged ripening conditions. The wines produced here are as rich as the volcanic soil in which the grapes are grown.
The vines are tended by hand, the fruit is hand harvested and the wines are handcrafted using whole bunch pressing and French oak. This labour of love and family commitment to their art produces a premium range of low yield, beautifully crafted wines.
With traditional Spanish hospitality, the del Rios Cellar Door is open on weekends for wine tasting and sales and also serves cheese platters, coffees and cakes.
